Growth + content

Why your videos get views but your followers don't grow

The profile conversion problem. 3 fixes that take 30 minutes total.

You're getting decent views — 5K, 20K, sometimes 100K — but your follower count moves like 30 per week. What's broken?

The profile conversion path. People reach you, then bounce.

Where the leak is

When a viewer taps your profile, here's what they see in the first 1.5 seconds:

  1. Your profile picture
  2. Your handle
  3. Your bio (160 chars)
  4. Your pinned video
  5. The grid

If any of those don't reinforce a single, sharp niche, they leave.

Fix 1: The bio test

Read your bio out loud. Can a stranger answer "what do they make videos about?" in one sentence?

If not, rewrite it. Format that works:

[Niche] for [audience]. [What you teach / show / do].
[Optional: signature line]

Examples:

  • "AI tools for solo founders. I test, you save time. Daily breakdowns."
  • "Strength training for women 30+. Real form, real reps, no influencer fluff."

Avoid: "creator | dreamer | coffee enthusiast" — tells nobody anything.

Fix 2: Pinned video swap

Your pinned video is the strongest signal in your profile. If it's 4 months old, swap it.

Pin the video that:

  • Best represents your niche promise
  • Has the best engagement rate (not view count — engagement)
  • Has a clear hook in the first 2 seconds

If your last 3 viral videos are all in different niches, that's the actual problem. Pick a lane.

Fix 3: The first 9 grid videos

Profile visitors scan the grid. If your last 9 cover 4 different topics, you look directionless.

The fix is mechanical: make sure 6 of your last 9 videos are in your declared niche. Not 9/9 (boring), not 3/9 (chaotic). 6/9 reads as "this person makes [niche] content with occasional range."

What this gets you

A bio + pinned + grid that converts at even a 5% better rate compounds fast. 100K views × 5% = 5K extra follows over the same content effort.

Creator Lens grades your profile conversion every Monday and tells you which of these to fix this week.
