How often should you post?

The honest answer to the most-asked TikTok question — it depends on whether you can sustain the cadence.

Everyone wants the magic number. Here's the honest version.

The actual rule

The right cadence is the highest cadence you can sustain for 12 weeks without quality collapse.

For most creators, that's 3–5 posts per week, not 1, not 14.

Why 3–5 is the sweet spot

  • < 3 posts/wk: the algorithm forgets you between posts. Each video starts cold.
  • > 5 posts/wk: quality drops, you burn through good ideas, and you're spending more time editing than thinking.
  • 3–5 posts/wk: algorithm treats you as active, you have time to make each video count, and you can sustain it for months.

What to do when life gets in the way

You will have weeks where you can't post 3 times. Don't ghost.

Instead: batch-record on weekends. Spend 2 hours every Sunday filming 4 videos. Edit and schedule them across the week.

This is the single biggest thing separating creators who post for a year from creators who quit at month 3.

Stop thinking in posts/day

The metric that matters is posts/30-day window. Aim for 12–20 in any rolling 30 days. That's roughly 3–5/week, but it gives you slack on bad days.

Common mistake: posting more during good runs

You went viral. Tempting to post 3x a day to ride it. Don't.

Going viral is algorithmic luck. Posting 3x while the wave is hot dilutes your video pool with rushed content. The wave breaks, the rushed content stays in your grid, profile conversion drops.

Instead: post 2 quality follow-ups, max. Save the "cash in" for the next week when you have ideas worth following the viral with.

The cadence audit

Open your profile. Count your posts in the last 30 days.

  • 0–8: too few. Set up Sunday-night batch sessions.
  • 9–20: healthy.
  • 21+: you're probably grinding. Quality is likely declining. Audit it.
